David Auburn April 26th

Mitch and Murray Productions are excited to announce our involvement with a new speaker series!

In partnership with the Vancity Theatre and Random Minds PR, we’re presenting  “STAGE TO SCREEN”, an on-going series that brings some of North America’s top talent to Vancouver for an intimate one-of-a-kind experience. The inaugurate event will feature Pulitzer and Tony Award winner, New York-based playwright, David Auburn (“Proof”).

The event will start  with a screening of Auburn’s directorial debut, “The Girl in the Park” (starring Sigourney Weaver and Kate Bosworth), which he also wrote, followed by a Q&A. Audiences will then be treated to a live stage reading of Auburn’s play “Proof,” featuring some of Vancouver’s top actors (TBA).

Following the reading, audiences will get to learn about Auburn’s experiences in the theatre, writing technique and approaches, influences, the road to writing a Pulitzer-award winning play, and much more, in an intimate moderated “In Conversation.” A portion of the evening will also be dedicated to questions from the audience.  The event will wrap with a private reception with David Auburn.

This event continues Mitch and Murray Productions’ track record of bringing challenging and provocative material from the global theatre and film scene to Vancouver.  As a five time Jessie Award nominated company, we have brought the work of several renowned playwrights to Vancouver, including Neil Labute’s “Fat Pig”, David Mamet’s “Race”, Michael Weller’s “Fifty Words” and Gina Gionfriddo’s “Becky Shaw”.

Tickets are available through www.viff.org/theatre/films/fc8116-stage-to-screen-in-conversation-with-david-auburn for $47 and include admission to the full event, starting Saturday April 26th at 3:00PM and ending at approximately 10:30PM (with 1.5 hr dinner break in-between).

The event is presented with support from Simon Fraser University’s English Department, UBCP, Vancity Theatre, the Sutton Place Hotel, and media partner, the Georgia Straight (straight.com).
